I think you answered the question yourself.

Wait till you are ready to travel to say one month before.

Then buy the Europe map.

This gives you lots of time to plan where you want to drive to and see.

Or to save on the cost just install Sygic on your Smartphone.......

Then you can get the latest maps when they come out.
