Thanks Caty, done that mod to remove ads on V3.4.2 build 34309. But the latest i can find is V3.4.2 build 34537. Is v3.4.3 a limited release beta?
Seems that the comments on Whirlpool aren't all that consistent about new/old version use and even the guys on the official forum are a bit at odds, even with the latest posts:
I wonder if a lot of problems with newer versions are due to using OS other than 7/8/8.1 as i asked and also perhaps hardware limitations of older PCs. I don't like using old software versions generally, but if there's good reason to revert i'll do it.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links

Neil, they got it right from the very start. It's just that bloatware crept in and messed it up. Like GPS handhelds, the earlier versions are just so much better IMHO...
My UT v2.2.1 is hacked so it's tad better...This the official uTorrent client patched to enable
using the DHT feature with torrents downloaded that have
the private flag set to true.
As far as I'm aware this is the last stable non beta version released for the version 2 line
of uTorrent builds before v3x was released.

Have you tried this?
From the uTorrent FAQ's.
What is ipfilter.dat?
This is a simple text file that specifies IP ranges to block. The format is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy
You can also use single IPs on a line (i.e. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). It ONLY supports blocks: it will ignore all text specified afterwards (such as what BLM and Tiny BLM does).
Do not pad IPs with 0s to ensure that it will work (i.e., write 64.12.15.0 not 064.012.015.000), though it is reported to work anyway.
Each new IP or IP range must be placed on a new line.
Place it in %AppData%\uTorrent, and set ipfilter.enable to true in the Advanced.
To reload ipfilter.dat without restarting µTorrent (1.7+ only), view the Peers tab, right click, and select "Reload IPFilter."
