Somehow, I can't get this one to work in Basecamp. I unzip the downloaded file, then put the two .img files onto my USB stick, as I normally do. When I select the map in Basecamp, I can see that Japan is marked by a blue line around it, but when I zoom in, the map isn't shown. One thing that is different from what I am used to with other maps is that there are two .img files, gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp_search.img. I don't know whether that's the reason that it doesn't work.
Quoted from original developer site:
I think these two files are for devices only, to make it work in BC you must download files from dropbox link supplied on site and install it with Mapsetoolkit. To be able to search the stations and convenience stores, was so also provided search data in a separate file.
Basecamp sometimes doesn't render fine maps built with third-party compilers.
I will make some tests and report back after downloading files.

No problem for this Japan OSM gmapsupp.img in my Basecamp.
Have you set your BC details at max?
I placed it in sd/Garmin
Map installed with Mapsetoolkit using files from Dropbox link works fine in Mapsource too:

Thanks, I am just silly. It appears that under Maps in Basecamp, you get both "Japan OSM" and "OSM Japan". I didn't see the former and selected the latter. It works fine with "Japan OSM". Probably too many maps in Basecamp: I can't see the one I need. It looks like a pretty good map with lots of small paths.
