@spijun
That's absolutely NOT the point of my post. Every '2GB' card has less than 2,000,000,000 bytes available capacity and that can vary between same sized cards even of the same brand which is also interesting, but immaterial to what japseye was trying to do i.e. put an almost 2GiB image file on a 2GB card:
Perhaps you didn't understand what the ~ symbol means in my post, it means approximately or thereabouts to indicate that the sizes are examples only.
@japseye
The variance in 2GB cards is not great, and usually much less than 100 MB in 4GB cards anyway, but 'no brand' cards can really cheat you. The main thing is that they never have the fully decimal 2GB of 2,000,000,000 bytes anyway because there is info hard coded during manufacture, even if the card had the full 2GB to start with [none ever do]. The near 2GiB images you are seeking are usually made to just under the 2GiB FAT16 limit as I stated. Some uploaders make even smaller images which they state will fit on a 2GB card, but because of the variance as pointed out even if they fit on some they may not fit on another. Best to just use 4GB cards with early nuvi 3x0/6x0 because they can only see an image of less than 2GiB, but if you have something later it can see up to a 4GiB image file on larger cards. Afaik, you can't even buy 2GB cards from retailers anymore [maybe on eBay still]. 4GB are smallest where i shop anyway.
Same problem for almost 4GiB image on a 4GB card though, as with almost 2GiB on 2GB card.![]()
