    As an older device, your eTrex Vista HCx would not be fully compatible with unicode maps. See [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Best stick with non-unicode EU 2014.40 to be safe. I concude from your question that you're using MapSource to compile an image. Sorry to say, MS is not fully compatible with large CN and Topo maps, so better to use MapInstall for them. To answer your question though, if the map is routable anyway [as this one is] that field will be automatically greyed out in MS anyway.

    @IceMatrix
    I suppose you're talking about your Kenwood with that question. I can't remember with them if that's the case, but for sure it's not to do with the map. It's a firmware thing and older Garmin units with ABC keyboards certainly enter only Capital letters in the search field.

    Thanks for the hint. With 2014.40 it worked. So I have to wait for the NT release.

    Next non-unicode CN EU will be 2015.20 in August. Only two releases a year now for it.

    I think Garmin does not have sufficient resources to compile so many maps every 3 month. It is called as the growing pains.

    They do have a legal loophole though. This is from the 'Requirements' tab of the EU LM page [nice place to hide stuff you don't want ppl to read. Score 1 for the Legal Team , 0 for the Consumers]. My emphasis in red:

    Terms and Limitations

    If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately), you will receive up to 4 (four) map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for 1 (one) compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third-party supplier, whichever is shorter.

    Note the other nasty. If they stop receiving map data from the supplier they can drop you like a hot rock. AU Sensis is now only updated twice annually, soon that may stop altogether because Garmin switched to Navteq/HERE for map data exclusively on new devices well over 2 years ago. I can't see them continuing to pay for Sensis data ad infinitum. Will be interesting to see what they do when all the 1/2/3xx0 LM holders scream blue murder if they do drop Sensis completely.

    The other above posts are fair comment though for EU because the data is the same in EU and EUU releases.
