can't seem to get this to work on either basecamp or my etrex 30 after downloading it, renaming it to 'gmapsupp' and unlocking it with the fast unlocker. Any ideasplease?
Why did you rename it? It's not necessary neither for basecamp nor for etrex 30, maybe you deleted the file extension .img.
If this is literally what you did, I suspect your computer settings are such that file extensions for known file types (like .IMG files!) are not shown. As a result, the original file Cycling_Benelux.img will then be shown as Cycling_Benelux (.img extension present, but not visible!). When renaming, make sure the new file name is gmapsupp.img.
To prevent confusion due to file extensions of known file types not being shown, you can change the setting yourself. In Windows XP you'll find it in Windows Explorer (not to be confused with Internet Explorer!) as follows: Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab -> remove the tick at "Hide extensions for known file types":
In other Windows versions, there will be a similar setting. Rename the map file including .IMG extension and you'll see it works fine. It works for me.
Edit: while I was composing this post, p!xeldealer posted as well, thinking long the same lines.![]()
I just unlocked Benelux_Cyclemap.img with Fast Image Unlocker as written in post #1, no problem. But I use TotalCommander and cmd (still like dos-commands), no problems with hidden extensions.
In the *.img file are 4 unlockcodes written !. I just removed them with Gmaptool. Also split this file for use in Mapsource: No search for places, but good for making routes and tracks.
Put the img on usb stick or gps, connected to PC and you can use the map in Basecamp (still learning Basecamp, I prefer Mapsource).
I am using windows 7 64 bit. So far none of the steps above have resolved my issue. I am going to try and download the zip file and start over. Many thanks for your help though :-)
Works OK for me in Basecamp (WindowsXP) and on nuvi 1490. But routing seems odd, e.g. between Heeten and Nieuw Heeten the suggested route avoids a perfectly good bike path beside the N332 in favour of a long detour via Spanjaardsdijk...
I forgot to put my .img file in a garmin named folder! all ok now thanks for your help again guys!
