The below is good news in that Garmin heard loud and clear and reacted upfront and with foresight in providing the below 794+MB JCV file for us 8x5 owners on the 2012.30 map.

From Garmin Product Support:

Why does the nuvi 8x5 receive a small JCV file during the map update process?
Due to software limitations on your device, we are unable to provide a larger junction view file along with the other files necessary to display mapping information on your device. However, if you would like to manually install the larger City Navigator North America 2012.30 Junction View file onto your nuvi 8x5, please download and save the following file to your computer in a location that is easy to find, and then follow the instructions below:

nuvi 8x5 users:

Connect your device to your computer using the supplied USB cable
Double-click the nuvi drive that appears in My Computer or on your Mac Desktop
Double-click the Garmin folder
Double-click the JCV folder
Save the D3060030A.JCV file to this location.
Delete any other JCV files in this location.
Once you have completed this process, your device will contain the complete Junction View database.
