    Map updates on Kenwood DNX9140.

    Start with Unit turned off
Plug a Mini USB cable into the back of the unit
Hook up the other end of the USB cable to a laptop
Power unit on and go to the nav screen.
It will ask you to select USB Mode or Garmin Mode
    Select Garmin Mode
Use MapInstall to put maps onto unit.

Hooking the unit up is the hardest part to install the maps . Must know have to restart the unit. After you get it all hooked up, this guide is pretty straight forward. It’s also useful to keep the USB cable hooked up to your unit and run it into the glove compartment for future updates too. You can also add vehicle icons and voices through Garmin Mode.

when I plug the SD into my PC, it shows up at F:

F: has 15 .gpx files, and a garmin folder
f:\garmin has gmapsupp.img, folder userdata, and folder gpx
    f:\garmin\gpx has userdata.gpx
    f:\garmin\userdata has userdata.adm

Which device do you have? some old devices dont support maps greater than 2 gb.
Which maps (how are they named) in your internal memory?

I have the GPSmap60CSX, which, from what I read, and experience, has a 4Gb limit.

I also dont think it has internal memory.

Yes no internal memory ,but note there is a 2025 tile limit that the GPS can see :limit for a single map file.

the tile limit may be my problem. We will find out shortly, after it re-compiles this mapset. I did forget about the 2025 tile limit.

I tried this the past 2 days & it was like watching paint dry with the d/l speed & I have 15mb dsl connection. I finally gave up & will go the regular d/l route.

I have read everything I can find regarding the installation of this map. I had no problem getting it to function in Mapsource...thanks to all.

But my problem is I can't get it to work in Mobile PC, when I try to send the maps to Mobile PC I get an error ' There is a problem communicating with the Garmin Device'.
I have verified that Mobile PC is functioning, GPS active, still same issue.

The only thing I can think of is that I need a different file (img) that is installed into Mobile PC?

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

PS. Figured it out, had to rename gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img :-).

If I use this 2011.40 version img, does it work together with 2011.30 gmap3d and JCV files ?
