    Hello all,
sorry, I am new here, but I am so confused with all these different versions of garmin etc.

1 question, will these Southern Africa Topo maps work with Garmin Mobile XT 5? I have it installed on a HTC Touch Diamond (Windows Mobile 6.1) but I currently have no maps for it! As I am off to the berg for a 2 day hike this weekend I would LOVE to have the topo maps on my phone!

Otherwise, any help would be appreciated! (Topo or Street, either would be great!)

    Thanks in advance!

Garmin maps will work on every garmin software, on Garmin Mobile XT too, you wont have all the functionalities, no 3D, probably, but it will work

Thanks for these links and all the info!
It took me a while, I think there were just to many options! But I finally got everything working on my HTC. (SA Street maps and TOPO)
One quick question though, I'm running Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.20w - is there any benifit in trying to get a newer version working on my phone?
Also, what is the difference between the TOPO and the DEM maps? I'll be hiking in the mountains (Drakensberg) soon, and need the best possible navigation incase we get lost again :D
    YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME

Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.20w is the last official version for WM
A digital elevation model (DEM) is a digital representation of ground surface topography or terrain. A DEM implies that elevation is available continuously at each location in the area.
A DEM map is a topo map. more infos here

    Thanks so much catymag!
So I'm assuming (being new to this) that the hiking trails map acts like a stencle over another map (topo or DEM etc.)?
Really, thank you so much, I've been looking for something like this for ages!

ps just read some of the posts on the hiking trails link - kudos to SakCyb (Johan Cloete) for compiling that map! Much respect! Keep up the good work!

You can make your own gmapsupp.img by installing Mapsource and generate it there
