Why do you need the serial of your SD card? I thought the only things needed were GPS Unit ID and MAPid. Or am I missing something?

Unlocking with a Unit ID will only unlock the map for the specific GPS unit. If the map resides on a memory card and it's unlocked using Card ID (CID) you can put the card in any Garmin unit and it will be unlocked also in all the other units. That's what ocicat meant with "The cards are interchangeable between the two units without issue".
