    Hi,
did anyone try the "Mapset: Topo Espana v4 Canarias" from post #39? Are these only a part of Spain v4 or a special map for the canarias?
Which topo would you recommend for hiking on tenerife?

    Thx,
    Peter

Default Islas Canarias - Canary Islands - Hiking map

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ], based on OSM from mapas.alternativaslibres, complemented by sandor08 with Trails and Height lines is much better than the official Topo v4. And yes, the map from #39 is only part of Topo Spain v4.

Is DEM data really necessary for hiking? Or does this mean, there are no contour lines at all?

Contour lines are present, DEM are for hillshading and elevation profiles in MapSource and on Garmin devices.

While DEM is a nice feature in Mapsource I always turn it off on my 62s because it renders Topo maps much too dark and makes it difficult to see trails. Even in a flat area the entire map is covered with a grey haze. I don't like the way Garmin renders DEM shading on handhelds.

I downloaded one of the Spain Maps here in this treat (i don't remember wich one) and I used in during my holiday.

It helped me a lot to do some nice hinking in the area. So thanks for sharing....

    Hi Catymag,
I seem to have gone wrong somewhere with the installation of TOPO Spain v4. I can see TOPO Espans v4 in Mapsource and it says not lockable, however I can only see the general base map??

this map is brilliant, working in Mapsource, Basecamp and without problems on my Montana 600 !
just install and unlock with mapset-unlocker.. and off you go...

    thanks
