    catymag,

    I have come to find out the hard way that for Nuvi 8xx series units and probably the 3790 as well, for Voice Commands to fully work, not only are the /ASR/xxxx.ASR and /ASR/xxxx.SRX files needed but the /ASR/xxxx.SRD files are needed as well as they also get updated to match the updated .SRX/.ASR files. To fully explain, all functions EXCEPT the Address Search seem to work fine using voice input if the .ASR and .SRX file are updated, however the Search using Address fails with various error messages depending where you are actually located and where you want to search.

    Can you or anyone else out there with the newer (2011.20 and every newer set) .SRD files add these missing to this Map Set thread? Also, I understand that these files are also available for all Europa CNNT map sets, and perhaps others, as well, so future postings for any and all map sets possessing /ASR directories (utilizing Voice Commands) be included in the posting? These additions would be very well received by those of us (seems extremely small number of voice command GPS are really out there). Have done several inet searches for these files without success.

    Thank you for solution to this problem.

    Default Update SRD-files with Garmin WebUpdater

    @MikieP

    There's no updates of SRD-files during a RMU download for City Navigator NT. The RMU package may contain one updated SRX-file and several updated ASR-files.

    SRD-files are handled by WebUpdater which scans the "GarminDevice.xml" file to find out what needs to be updated. I've made a test with a USB stick and a copy of a nüvi 3790T directory structure. Just some small editing in the GarminDevice.xml makes WebUpdater to suggest updated SRD-files.

    SRD section in GarminDevice.xml from a nüvi 3790:

    Lowered the major version number for English_American.srd, English_British.srd and Italiano_.srd:
    Code:

    WebUpdater result running with GarminDevice.xml having the lowered versions for 3 SRD files:

    Ballebar,

    Thank you for your reply! If these .SRD files are not the cause of the inability to enter Address data input by voice, then what do you think the cause would be, please?

    the 10 parts img is not a mapsource installation file, you must just unrar and copy in your gps, renaming it in a correct way, read tutorials - how to unlock it ,if it's locked and how to store it in your device

    Ballebar,

    It really helps to put the correct version of the ASR files on the garmin... for some reason I put the 2011.10 ASR files on and finally found my HUGE mistake. Been banging my head for days... Much thanks! One other question, though. It is NOT a good idea to use web updater anymore now that things are no longer what they were when purchased?

    It makes perfect sense to use Garmin WebUpdater for updating unit specific features. The unit is always keeping the "GarminDevice.xml" updated to reflect the current installed versions of files in the unit. This works well as long as nobody makes a home-cooked or edited firmware with mismatching FW & HW IDs for another region or GPS model. All of this is for units that uses USB "Mass Storage Mode" instead of the legacy Garmin protocol for serial based communication.

    Other features that's depending on a map update is distributed inside the map update package. The map updater is also reading your specific units model code and applies the map update for that model. Voice recognition, 3D and JCV will only be distributed to the units who is capable of using those features.
