Did you try unlocked IMG from first post?
There is no difference in navigation map, only file that changed since first release is gmap3d.img.
When I select complete EU map in MapSource it gives me size of 1898.2 MB = 1.8537 GB, so it anyway too big for your card.

Advice:
Get MapSource version, unlock it using this guide

transfer almost complete EU map to your device (just omit some small parts you will never need) and map will fit.
If you did it in first place it would be over long time ago.

Or buy new SD card - 4GB
