Have you taken the device outside to allow it to get a new GPS fix since you updated to the latest firmware?
Hello.
I noticed a problem on my Garmin 1200 GPS.
The GPS date is incorrect...
According to my research, the problem is due to the age of my GPS (around 2009).

Is there a solution?
I've updated the GPS firmware via Garmin Express, but that doesn't solve the problem.
Thanks for your help.

Yes.
The current date is: Wednesday, January 11, 2006
The firmware version is: "Software Version 6.30"
"Nuvi 1200 W V5 2GB PM"
It doesn't seem to me it caught the signal
I made 3 car journeys (more or less 100 km) with the GPS.
Navigation works perfectly.
The "Word Clock" tool currently reads "Wed. 11 Jan 2006".
The time is one hour behind (probably a problem with winter and summer time).
The "World map" tool also shows "Wed. 11 Jan 2006".
I also have to set the color mode manually, as the "Auto" option doesn't work properly (probably because of the wrong date).
Is the time and zone selection set to manual? Then you have to enter the data
Try - first put it on auto, if nothing changes, put it to manual and set it
Also be sure you have the appropriate file in your device
In addition to the firmware update, you should also update the time/zone via GarminExpress
March of 2025 there was an update to the Time Zone file.
You might have to get a manual install of this update if Garmin Express will not install it.
File name: gmaptz.img

A lie goes around the internet before anyone ever fact checks it if it is true or not. In most cases no one ever checks anything they just accept it as fact.....
I've set the time to "automatic".
It's not possible to choose the time zone yourself (I think it's set according to location).
This doesn't solve the date problem and the time is incorrect: the GPS indicates "10:58" when it is "11:58".
I used GarminExpress:
GarminExpress tells me that everything is up to date.
I don't know how to synchronize the date and time.
I'll try to update the "gmaptz.img" file.

I have a couple Garmin devises and you def have to set your time zone to set it right, can only suggest you look deeper and find that setting.

I found the file "gmaptz.img" on the GPS.
I don't know if it's the latest version.
I think Garmin Express has updated the file.
The file size is 560 kb (573,440 bytes).
No option to change the time zone is available.
I can only choose between "24h", "12h", "UTC".
I can manually set the time in 15-minute increments, but not the date.
Edit: I checked the version of the "gmaptz.img" file.
I deleted the file from the GPS and Garmin Express offered to download the most recent version of the file.
It's the same file (same size).
