I tried updating via SD card by changing it to "GUPDATE.GCD" and I put it in the Garmin folder. Restart Garmin and it says "Software loading" and after a few moments the screen turns off and the device suddenly restarts itself and so on. just like bootloop ..............
It's likely now bricked by a corrupt GCD file. The kit supplied by Neil will delete it from the device and flash the firmware correctly, so providing it hasn't now lost the ability to read from a card it should be restorable. However i agree he still may have a hardware fault as well.
