SPc3x0 series can only read detail mapping from an SD card. As part of the boot cycle it will look for an SD and if none is inserted it will stall on this screen:

If you then insert an SD card without any readable map it will reboot and show this:

The device cannot store any maps other than the factory loaded Basemap on its internal memory. So you must load a suitable detail map named only gmapsupp.img into a Garmin root folder in the card. Use only a card of 2GB or smaller. The device cannot read a map IMG file of more than 2,147,483,647 bytes in size (2 Gibibytes less 1 byte).
