Hi All - just got back into using OS maps/Discoverer etc and recall ways back it took a bit of thought and correct tools to install these maps. I can see things have moved on a lot and was wondering if garmin have made it impossible to now install .img maps onto a device. I remember using cgsmapper etc but don't look like it will work now and am not having much success. Is there a guide around someone can kindly point me to ?

Hi Rick since I posted I have been tinkering about and have got some maps on it which seem to be working, just doing some more figuring out, I remember it being a pain and hit and miss depending whose maps you downloaded, so far so good - a bit of the process came back to me
+1 for this - I routinely load home-brewed IMG map files to my Garmin GPSMap 66s using a 32Gb or 64Gb mSD card.
More info in the Creating Maps area of this forum. I also use them on a USB virtual device to view them in BC for trip planning .
I stopped making my own TOPO maps there are so many free routable Garmin map sites out there no need to make your own.
Here is just some of them I have been using over the years:

These all work on the Oregon 600 and no need to use mapsource or basecamp software.
Like babj615 points out just copy the .img file to \garmin folder on the memory or SD card.
Most handhelds will let you give each map .img a different name.
No need to have to make any maps just download and install and you are set to go.
Plus if you need to install these maps on your PC you can do that too.
