Editing Montana configuration to make tracks thicker
I've been working on a Garmin 595LM, where I'm able to edit the KTMF file to make tracks thicker/more visible, and I'm now looking to try and do the same on my Montana 650t, which doesn't use KTMF files at all.
On the 595 I was able to increase tracks from the barely visible scale of 1, up to scale 3, which while not as good as I wood like, is at least visible, with 3 being the biggest it can do.
So the question is whether anyone knows if there is some way to make track lines thicker via some form of editing?

I understand that - perhaps I should have been clearer. I've been taking in the case of the 595 a copy of the KTMF file on to my laptop and editing it either manually with Notepad, or using Theme Editor 3.1, saving with a new name, then copying it back to the device.

The GPX output of the Montana has no setting for track line width, this is purely a function of the software being used to display the track.

But there is a GPF file, (as opposed to a GPX) which appears to be in something like an XML format, and about which I can't find any info, hence my query here. As mentioned, this kind of editing does work on the Garmin 595, so there has to be something similar with Montanas.
I believe that the maps themselves incorporate a TYP file, which can be extracted, modified, and put back, but I've yet to experiment with that angle.Last edited by TwoUpTourer; 3rd February 2021 at 12:18 AM.

I have no idea how GPX output came up, presume like everyone else you just want to have the track more visible on the screen while riding the bike?
The only related .gpf tags I can find across my different devices (78sc, Rino650 & 66i) don't relate to width:
<TrackLog>1</TrackLog>
<TrackLogZoom>1</TrackLogZoom>
<TrackRecordMethod>2</TrackRecordMethod>
<AdvTrkTripRecording>0</AdvTrkTripRecording>
<AdvTrkRecordedDataReset>0</AdvTrkRecordedDataReset>
<TrackColor>14</TrackColor>
and there is also a :
<MotorcycleSettings>2</MotorcycleSettings>
Presume yours are similar and you've already seen them.
A couple of long shots, seeing it's a common issue on bikes you could try 0,1,3,...in the MotorcycleSettings and see what happens?
Or if you want to be a crash test dummy is there a specific Garmin text reference in the .ktmf that might give a clue to a yet unknown tag for experiment in the .gpf? I just tried adding a <TrackWidth>2</TrackWidth> to a 78sc .gpf to see what would happen and as expected it didn't work, but on the plus side it simply removed the offending entry from the file and caused no other issues. I have no idea how your device might react though.

Yes - Unlike the big fat line that Garmin uses in a route, tracks, which we use most of the time when out riding in fringe areas, is much harder to see. As mentioned, I was able to increase the line width on the Garmin 595LM from it's default scale size of 1 up to 3, which is better, but not great.
