Drive series are Garmin's 'Entry Level' navigators and as such have limited features. 3D Buildings & Landmarks and 3D Terrain (DEM) aren't available in the firmware so the sort answer is 'No'. The long answer is that maybe if someone very experienced with Garmin firmware wanted to invest enough time the capability could be added into the standard firmware but it's highly unlikely that'll happen.
Thank you Butters for the short and straight answer, it looks like not even Garmin DriveLuxe™ 51 LMT-S high end unit for 329.99 USD has these features enabled. Not sure why Garmin didn't bring these features into 2017 product line. It looks like instead of getting best of the best features into new products, Garmin for some reason skipped these important features, not sure why.
Is Garmin DEM (gmapdem.img) disabled for 2017 series at firmware level as well?
To be fair, they have added other features that weren't in earlier models and I've always found 3D buildings to be just distracting eye-candy that in some models slowed rendering anyway. Better to have a photo of your destination to help you recognize it as you approach for instance.
But as said, Garmin is Garmin. Like the other great G, they giveth and they taketh away and ours is not to reason why.
DEM isn't disabled as such, it's simply not even in the firmware. Is Garmin DEM (gmapdem.img) disabled for 2017 series at firmware level as well?
Garmin is Garmin, if people continue to buy new crap from them, they will continue to sell crap.
It's a shame that this went from the best forum for Garmin to pretty much so-so because so many "experts" have decided not to participate.
Do not PM me with questions. That's what a forum is for.
Nowadays all modern products are crap because the world corporations finished the repartition of the markets. Osiris4isis is belong to Android generation obviously![]()
