Hi all,
I have updated more nuvi's in the past but never a 1340.
Should I update this in the same way as for example a 250?
Should I update it with Mapsource?

1xxx series was the first with some files in hidden .System folder, most importantly the factory-loaded maps. Browse the Tutorials, all such basic information is there to save members posting and waiting for replies. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
Don't use MapSource for updating maps, it's old and unsupported and makes errors compiling img files, use only MapInstall.

Depends what you want to update.
If it is system software (firmware) and ancillary files, use WebUpdater or Garmin Express.
It it are maps, then go with the suggestions already made by Neil and catymag.
Don't use MapSource. It's obsolete. Maps from recent years are not fully compatible with it anymore.

Okay,
Thanks for your reply's.
I succeeded to updated the Garmin with WebUpdater but then I'n a little lost.
On the Garmin I have found:
.System
gmapprom.img
gmapbmap.img
GMAPTZ.IMG
I assume (I am sure)I have to replace them (GMAPTZ.IMG ??) but the problem is how to do.
I found a lot of Garmin maps
Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 201610 Map Source Data with msi installer Unlocked
or
Garmin City Navigator Europe NTU 201630 )for Garmins who can work with unicode)
How to go on because that isn't clear for me?
The gmaptz.img is the Time Zone map (contains data for time zones across the globe, including Day Light Saving details). That file should automatically get updated to the latest version when using WebUpdater or Garmin Express.
The nüvi 1340 uses the NT version of the European map, not the NTU (Unicode) version!
Therefore see here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
For details on how to update the maps, see here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (as mentioned by catymag in post #3).
Edit:
gmapbmap.img is the world base map. No need to update.
gmapprom.img is the routable detail map, presumably the European map you're trying to update.

Hey Guys
Is there an updated link for Maps downloading tips for new Garmin users because the link above appears to be broken?
I have a Nuvi 1450 and I am having trouble updating the map, could you point me in the right direction?
Cheers
