The speaker in my nüvi 2495LMT died. Just like that. From one moment to the other no more sound. The device was not dropped or subject to any other negative external influence. Removed speaker and tried in a nüvi 2595, still no sound. Tried the speaker from the nüvi 2595 in the 2495 and the sound works. Conclusion: speaker died. I looked at eBay for a replacement speaker, but the model I need is not listed. Does anyone have such speaker lying around or know where I can buy one? See image below for details. The speaker in a nüvi 2595 has a rectangular shape and is therefore not going to fit. Thanks!

You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
I have a nüvi 50 too and will first try to swap before buying. Thanks!

You are welcome, but there is one only on sale, hurry up![]()

The image with the eBay sale (in particular the absence of a connector!) gave me the idea to widen the search to a more general "speaker 28mm" And WOW! So many more to choose from and more affordable. Most speakers are 8 ohm. The speaker from the nüvi 2595 is 4 ohm (stated on the back). Not sure of the impedance of the nüvi 2495 speaker. Thinking of buying this set of 2 speakers (always handy to have an extra one lying around) of 8 ohm from Hong Kong (or "Honkers" as Neil tends to say) for US$ 5.28 including shipping:

If the sound turns out to be too soft, I can opt for this one (1 speaker, 4 ohm) from Germany for € 7.38 including shipping:

Have patience, but I will post back. Thanks for widening my horizon, Caty!![]()

You might also check the S-gauge model railroad forums. They use tiny speakers in their model trains. Jim
Thanks, Jim. I expect to receive the two speakers from post #5 in not too much time. Will keep your suggestion in mind if no success.![]()

Received the two speakers yesterday. Had to swap the connector from the old speaker to the new speaker. Here are the results:
Works like a charm! Because of the higher impedance of the new speaker, I expected the volume to be somewhat softer. However, when using same volume selections, I can't notice any volume difference when comparing this nüvi 2495LMT with a nüvi 2595LMT which I have lying around too!![]()

Nice Stewie! Glad it worked for you, but i knew it would. Here's the thing: There are both output and input impedance as you clearly understand. However, the input or "nominal impedance figure" [4 or 8 ohm in your case] of an certain speaker is not really the impedance of the speaker itself. It's actually the DC resistance of the speaker's coil. Therefore, it's really looking at the worst case that an amplifier can handle in regard to power [remember Ohm's Law, I=V/R and the converses V=IR and R=V/I. i.e., for an amplifier's or output source's output measured in *volts a 4 ohm load would draw twice as much current as an 8 ohm load. So the problem is more in battery drain rather than blowing the speaker cone unless you somehow managed to crank the vol up to 200% an' rip the knob off so to speak... or so i've heard
. I really think the concern is more for the output source than the speaker itself when you use a higher impedance speaker than that specified as optimal.
