Smulan mate, that's also excellent targeted advice for biker use and very easy for a novice to learn with MapSource to do the waypoints. Thanks. You should start a thread with tips for workarounds such as using waypoints with split maps in units like 276C. There's a surprising amount of these old 'region only' waterproof units still in use. Many are restricted by small datacards or insufficient internal memory for detail maps. It's possible to buy a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], [expensive!] but those with limited internal memory and no media card slot are forever stuck. All these workarounds are scattered around, having them in one place would be helpful for bikers i believe.

Neil and Smulan good suggestions and as you say restricted by Mac. I should have bought the Garmin data card reader but now very rare.

Looks like the only way will be to do away with search function and use GMapTool to split the .img file. The Mac version of GMapTool is a terminal so will wait until I can use a Windows machine could you give me a basic description as to what to split the .img file into? Thanks
