hi catymag the thing is that it works but not if i insert a different TrakMarine card (a card that wasn't inserted while at v3.4). I dont think I've done a hard reset since I'm not sure how to do it on the echomap 70dv. and when should I do it while on 3.4 or at 4.2?

Perform master reset after downgrading to old firmware 3.40 ......and IMHO after flashing 4.20 too.

alright tried it with the resets (downgrade to 3.4 and do a reset insert my maps chips then upgrade to 4.2 and do a reset and insert my map chips) and I get the same scenario. it works fine at 3.4 but once I update and insert a different TrakMarine card (a card that wasn't inserted while at v3.4) it doesn't accept it "map format not supported". but to cure this all i need to do is insert them all while at 3.4 then update and they will all work.

Trying to use custom maps generated with gpsmapper and sendmap in the new 2015 marine chart platters. The custom maps are on sd card with a lock key based on the unit ID number. When I plug in the chip, the unit recognizes the map but a message stating " THE MAP FORMAT IS NOT SUPPORTED" is displayed on screen. Below is the data from the GarminDevice.xml file. Anyone run into this problem. Have used this method for the past several years without any problems.

I think custom Charts will only work with the following Garmin Plotters:
    GPSMAP 400/500/600/700/1000/4000/5000/6000/7000 Series.
Garmin Plotters with a software version higher than 2015.02.02 will not be compatible.
As stated for example from this vendor about Navionics charts.

    Changelog probably is this one:
Changes made from version xx to xx: Changes to support manufacturing.

The only way (if possible) is to downgrade fw.
Read info linked in post n 24.
