Neil, this device works only through direct USB connection by means of Garmin program likes MS and there is not Mass Storage mode.

Due to the device SW peculiarity this unit activates maps for automotive and marine mode as he pleases. But it is no problem with check whole mapsets as well as each single maps in its through the menu. It is very useful because different single maps often overlapping one another in BCh. Also this unit have a big set of settings for map displaying...

Yes, i'm aware of that. But... like the non-MSM SP2610 [CF card] or SPc3x0 [SD card], the Garmin GPSMAP datacard units can have the media card programmed with map data via a dedicated card reader also. I've experience with GPSMAP295 and other aviation units very similar to the marine units fitted with Garmin proprietary datacard and maps/charts can be added/removed that way without using MS/MI/Sendmap20 to the card via the unit. The map S[X]SA001R SAm East Coast is certainly not available as a MS/PC installed version at least recently, and the downloadable version can't be installed with GE on non-MSM units in my experience so that only leaves MapUpdater, or buy it on SD/microSD [can't be bought on datacard]. Because it can be done manually as i've suggested this leaves the possibility for incorrect naming or placement. If the cardreader method was in fact used, we need the OP to say how the chart was named and placed to eliminate that possibility of error. Certainly CCDGold was and probably still is available as a Mapsource instal version, but is more common as an image file.

Like i said, we're short on info so i was guessing. Anyone who uses one of these old chartplotters for a while get to know that maps must be active with the correct auto or marine mode selected.
