City Navigator Europe 2014.10 installed on SD card can be viewed on Basecamp not on nuvi 350

I installed an unlocked City Navigator Europe 2014.10 using a patched Basecamp v4.1.2 onto a 16 Gb microSD card using the mapinstall software (I installed it by plugging in the nuvi 350 to the USB port and doing the 3 hour approach). Now I can view the map on my computer when I have the nuvi 350 plugged in and Basecamp will read it through the SD card, but on the nuvi I'll hit Settings>Map>Map Info and the only one that is there is the North America one that came preloaded on the nuvi.

Problems:
Can't view Europe map stored on 16 Gb microSD card (with adapter) in GPS unit (nuvi 350), but can view in Basecamp when connected.
Only US map shows up in Map info screen

I tried using the search function and reading the tutorials, but none addressed my problem.

Older units such as your nuvi 350 cannot use *.img files above the FAT16 size limit of 2GiB - 1 byte [2,147,483,647 bytes]. Even though it can use a large SD card formatted in FAT32 that file size limit is still imposed. Split an EU map into a couple of parts using a PC Install [Mapsource] version and you can install the biggest of the 2 img files [less than 2GiB] on your card and the smaller part on your 350's internal flash drive [if you have the space there]. Otherwise, you cannot have the entire EU map as it's well over 3GiB in one file. Btw, the latest NT for EU is 2015.20 now: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and release of 2015.30 is imminent.

I'm new to a lot of this, do you have a link to a tutorial, or know where to find which Mapsource version I need?

As for the updated map, I'm not too worried since I'm only using the unit to go on a family vacation to Europe and the updated maps wouldn't serve much of a purpose (that is unless you think it is easier to download the updated one and put that on the nuvi).

'Mapsource version' is a bit misleading now i suppose. I try to use the term 'PC version' or 'PC Install' instead being as MapSource the program is now very outdated, unsupported by Garmin and can cause possible serious image compilation errors resulting in navigating problems, freezing of the device or worse [but rarely] even bricking it. Having any 'unofficial' map on an SD card is best anyway, because if it causes problems you can just take the card out and the unit will usually again work properly.

Best practice is to use only BaseCamp/MapInstall to create any land map *.img file. Safer to use the latest available map data especially when in unfamiliar territory imo. For a tutorial, look to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and scroll down to 'Have you downloaded a PC map version (.exe) for Basecamp/Mapsource?' and 'Have you downloaded a Gmap folder ?'. BaseCamp has an initial pop-up video tutorial as part of the program and very good on-board help.

Hi, sorry for bothering you again, but I've been reading all of the tutorials and still have no luck. My steps:

1. Downloaded[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] installed it and put the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in the same folder as Basecamp and successfully patched Basecamp
2. Downloaded [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and replaced the MapInstall.exe in the Garmin folder with the patched version
3. Ran the patch again (didn't know if necessary or not)
4. Plugged in nuvi 350 and started up Basecamp
5. Basecamp shows the maps and when I try to right click on CityNavigator Europe and click "Install Maps" MapInstall opens, but says that "no unlocked maps found for this device" (says this for OS C:/, nuvi and memory card)
6. Went and downloaded Protected Garmin File [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to try and unlock the map, and got the red "This IMG file is not locked !" alert at the end, and saved the changed unlock code (as per the instructions on the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]), but I wasn't quite sure what this did.
7. Went to Basecamp and tried to install the map to the nuvi, but again MapInstall says "no unlocked maps were found for this device"

Possible problems:
I only have the img file for the CityNavigator file (named gmapsupp.img) and though it says "Not lockable" when I click Manage Map Products, the version number is 0.0 which seems strange.
Don't know if I need to (or how to) create a unl file.

I thought that the CityNavigator was just the .img file of the map. I didn't know you had to install it somewhere. I can view the CityNavigator map on Basecamp (by connecting nuvi to USB), but I can't install selected portions of it to the SD card (I can't even get to the screen where it lets me select map portions, I just get a "No unlocked maps were found for this device" after I click Install maps).

Basecamp reads your .img in sd, Basecamp supposes you have this .img already in your nuvi/sd, so it's obvious you can't split it with Mapinstall and install parts of this map again in nuvi/sd.
If you want to install a map with Mapinstall, you must run CN installer on pc and once installed, you'll be able to move the selected .img to your device.
