Only $10 difference between the price of the lower 48 OEM 55 and 55LM in US:
US & CA LM on a 56LM only another 10 bucks again. Add lifetime traffic for another 20 smackers to get a 55LMT or 56LMT. Very clever marketing by Garmin with the price bracketing.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
Easiest for you might be to put the near new 55 on eflea and buy a 55/56LM[T] from a discount store. Unlikely you'll end up as much out of pocket as you would if you added an NA LM card to your 55 [BTW, that will only update the mapping directly on the unit to lower 48, but you can install the gmap folder to your PC to add all NA or MX/CA separately and legally to your unit with the correct codes].
LM cards cannot be purchased for any other mapping other than the OEM area normally [ie can't add EU to a NA unit is the example given by Garmin] but because solely US, or US/CA, or lower 48 States are not offered as after-market LM purchase, Garmin has to sell you all NA LM for those units.
For a mapping region other than OEM [factory loaded] you are limited to buying 'one-off' map versions which don't give you additional files such as JCV either and cost the earth, eg US$100 for EU if you do it from NA:Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
But don't feel too bad because if I do that from AU it'll cost me AU$109 [about US$118 on current conversion rates] for NA 'one-off' and AU$140 for EU and they come from the exact same Garmin server:Code:Please Login or Register to see the links

Neil, I appreciate your comments. I bought the nuvi 55TV here in my country because I would have a GPS and a DTV together. But here Garmin do not sell nuvi 55TV LM. See the link:Well, I will use the map that came with the gps and in the future I will use OSM maps. Regards.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links

Ha ha! Ok, clear now your problem. US/EU/AU 55 and SAm 55TV are completely different units of course. Comedy of errors, your original post says you have a nuvi 55 and you quoted $90 to add LM 'for your region', Brasil i guess, which co-incidentally is the same cost to add LM onto an NA unit so you'd understand the confusion.
Then again, maybe i'm the one on Planet-X [Nibiru].

Ah, a question of semantics. I believe they are different, albeit related units and only share some specs. If they are 'the same', try loading US/EU 55 firmware [HWID 1697] to your 55TV without bricking it for instance [that's not a dare, best not try]. If you have same HWID and PCB P/N then i'd agree they are not 'different units'. US/EU 55 can have PCB P/Ns of 105-01925-00/02, 105-01926-00/02/10, 105-01916-00, 105-02067-00, 105-02340-00 or 105-02310-00.
To find that info, hold the battery symbol for ~6 secs, press 'Back' or 'Next' to reach 'Version Information' screen and see PCB P/N, then press 'Start Test' > 'More' to reach Inventory Page. Look for HWID behind first 3 entries Bxxxx-00
So if your 55TV matches the US/EU 55 in both HWID and firmware and has one of those PCB P/Ns, then i agree for sure they are the same.![]()

I did it: PCB P/N105-02530-00 HWID B1966-00 2.00.
Thanks. Non-matching PCB P/Ns means incompatible hardware = different units.

You're welcome! Anyway the 55TV can be added to the new protection models list.![]()
