If a nuvi battery gets very flat it can cause problems such as bricking and corrupting of internal flash disk and or NVRAM.
    Rational:
The Nuvi works with Flash Memory and "much to my disgust" it is always writing to Flash Memory, It writes when it boots up, When it boots down and all the time you are using it.
This is fine when the battery is OK, When the battery is very low, the Nuvi tries to boot up but there is not enough power to keep it alive, so it dies from lack of power and tries to reboot (crash reboot).
If it happens to be writing to flash memory at the time it dies it will corrupt the flash memory.
    Moral of the story :
Charge your Nuvis that are in storage periodically.
If you take a Nuvi out of storage (flat battery) first plug it in the USB or car charger and leave it plugged in for at least an hour before booting up on battery.
Another tip to avoid corruption, Never unplug a Nuvi from USB while Express or Webupdater are active and writing to Flash.
First let the process finish and close the Application before unplugging Nuvi.

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
