No, gps marine nav. maps are different from the paper maps. You can plan a route over it and navigate. The marine nav. maps have information about the position of the rock, buoys, lighthouses, sea shore, water corridors, depts etc. Yes, the gps will track your location over the map. It will save the track you make in a gpx file on an SD card and then you can view it in Google Earth lets say.

You can search for GPSMAP 276c but you can't use it for a fishfinder or GPSMAP 620 but it is quite pricy. And they can be used only with depth sensors.
Other wise look at the newer echoMap series. They are quite nice! Support the new CHIRP transducers. Very good for fishing! But can't be used in cars. Or if you wish something not very expensive GPSMAP 421s/521s.
