What Garmin GPS should I get?

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Garmin GPS that I can use on the water for fishing, finding depths, spots etc. and occasionally use as a guide on the road. What's a good unit to buy? Also when I download a nautical map would the GPS be able to track my location on that map or are these maps simply used for guidance much like a paper map.

No, gps marine nav. maps are different from the paper maps. You can plan a route over it and navigate. The marine nav. maps have information about the position of the rock, buoys, lighthouses, sea shore, water corridors, depts etc. Yes, the gps will track your location over the map. It will save the track you make in a gpx file on an SD card and then you can view it in Google Earth lets say.

No, all-in-one device. "There is no full happiness" people say.

You can search for GPSMAP 276c but you can't use it for a fishfinder or GPSMAP 620 but it is quite pricy. And they can be used only with depth sensors.

Other wise look at the newer echoMap series. They are quite nice! Support the new CHIRP transducers. Very good for fishing! But can't be used in cars. Or if you wish something not very expensive GPSMAP 421s/521s.

Thanks for your suggestions, I don't want to use it as a fish finder I just want to use it as a guide on the water to show me where I'm on the map.Any unit that supports the viewing of water body maps and shows me there depths would be suitable, in fact I wouldn't care if I don't use it on the road.

Can you connect a VHF or AIS to Montana or use it as a sonar? Or do you have Mariner's Eye or Fish Eye in Montana:
