It's quite possible, but it wasn't by me--intentionally or inadvertently. There are two possibilities that I can think of...
Just a brief history on this 200W, got it used for a relative. I'd updated everything and all was working when I gave it to him a couple of years ago. That's when I noticed that TTS and Speed Limits--features that are not characteristics of the 200W--were enabled after the software update. Recently, I picked up a used 1350 as an upgrade for his 200W. I reset, updated, and was preparing the 200W as an upgrade for an older 200 that I'd given a friend. This is when I noticed the startup pic issue.
First possibility is that the software update to version 7.60 somehow erased the splash. [Edit] Software update performed via the Garmin WebUpdater program running on a WinXP-SP3 PC. [/Edit]
Second possibility is that overheating of the unit somehow caused the splash to be erased. The reason why I speculated on this possibility is that when I pulled the SDcard that was in that 200W--a Sandisk 1GB--the plastic label showed signs of heat exposure--air bubbles/blisters all over it. My relative was not particularly meticulous in the care and use of this 200W so quite possible. However, if it was heat exposure, nothing else seemed to have been affected though, as the unit continued to function properly in all its navigational functions.
Anyway, both possibilities are just my thoughts and speculations...
