Default Will UK traffic receiver work in the US?

Am investigating buying a receiver at the moment. As the thread title says - will a UK one work in the US? I know about subscriptions and see a thread about it here. I don't know if the UK / US / Europe transmitters are on wavebands that a UK one would pick up? I did read somewhere that you might need the additional aerial if you use it in the UK because of generally crap signal.

I primarily got the Garmin for the US road trip this summer, and will probably not use it too much in the UK where I know the traffic on routes I regularly go on. Any advice please?

Yes, a purchased added subscription will work in the US and you shouldn't need the external aerial there because the TMC service is quite good. As you have been told some signals in EU are not so good. You can add up to 15 subscriptions to a GTM2x/3x receiver. Probably the same with GTM60 but it only works with 3490 & 3590 i think.
