Thread: Map format on garmin gps 176c

You need to install the map in Mapsource and then transfer it to the 176C from Mapsource.
I suppose the 176C is like my old 176 (greyscale without C) and needs to transfer the data by a serial cable. If your computer does not have a serial port there are usb to serial adapters for a reasonable price avalible.
The 176C can not handle NT-maps I believe but maybe the waterways map is not an NT so it should work well.

I did the exercise today on my GPSmap 176C for the same files and I got great help:
Step 1. Create a directory c:\Garmin.
Step 2. Unpack the .rar files in the directory c:\Garmin
Step 3. Run the install.bat file.

Now, open MapSource.
Strangely enough, for me as a beginner, after step 3 the map showed up in MapSource under the File button.
