Garmin recommends 4GB, but I believe the maximum is 16GB, since the slot is SDHC compliant.
I don't use pre-prepared map images, mostly because I have access to the Mapsource mapset via my 1300LM's map updates, but also because of my 200W only having 1GB of memory internally. I use a 2GB SD for the rest of the map image on the 200W, and it has about 1.4GB left for future expansion. The continent may change the size of the recommended SD card, but the process is still going to be pretty much the same as I described. The only thing different is that instead of running MapInstall the second time to generate the map image on the SD card, you drop the map image onto the SD card.
Personally, it's more gratifying to build the map image yourself, which is why I'm glad that Noeman is trying to get away from pre-prepared map images.
