arh ok so the base map was working all the time it was just the color mode! i found the settings in tools/settings/display/color mode and changed it to Day not Auto. hrm I wonder how it knew it was night time? anyways blue land was to difficult to distinguish against purple roads!! cheers was driving me crazy

btw.. do you need to have a gmapsupp.unl file in your SD garmin folder if the map is already unlocked, either by using basecamp yourself or from a ^ mapsource ready folder? i have detail maps from both of those sources and they seem to work fine just thought i wud check.
