Folders are different in 1490, there is folder \.System with maps and most other data, folder \Map for user maps, where you can use img files with any map.
The only thing you can easy copy are your favorites, probably easiest way is to use Mapsource to transfer, these are waypoints in Mapsource.
You can manually copy POI, which are files *.gpi on 255W in directory \Garmin\POI and on 1490 probably in \POI.
There is no way to copy settings form one unit to another.
