NAVTEQ is a global company specializing in maps and related services, but with strong competitors in specific areas in many countries, such as Traffic, for example, locales where it is far from the best. In various of these regions she sub hires local companies to provide traffic information that go feed their databases. But one of the biggest limitations is in the TMC (Traffic Messenger Channel) that use FM radio analogic transmission for traffic data, system used by Garmin and that do not have much to do with the amount of traffic data available on Navteq and other providers. Besides the limitation on comprehensiveness, capacity and speed in baud rate and data updates also have the question of the codes traffic compatible built-in in the map, which further limits comprehensiveness of the system, since the Navteq is not anything agile to update maps, especially in countries on the periphery of your market, as in Brazil.
To try to overcome these limitations Garmin launched in the United States the HD Traffic system that uses digital radio transmission and considerably surpassed the previous system, but still falls far short of the transmission capacity and updates from data transmitted over broadband Internet. The only advantage these radio diffusion data system is not have cost to use. To overcome such drawbacks Garmin offers services as Traffic by Smart Link, application of recent models of GPS that has bluetooth and allow the online connection data between the phone and gps, but is not a service available in South America, in addition to being paid and also depend of the cellular and broadband internet.

Funny is that I've been to Navteq presentation of the TMC system here in Brazil like 2 years ago and they announced 4 sources to provide traffic data:
- Radio Sul America Transito: local (Sao Paulo area) radio which count on listeners traffic info and with Maplink as well);
- G.E.T.: official traffic management company (pretty shitty info, barely of the main roads);
- Tracking system: most of private insurance companies install tracking system in vehicles, that info is gathered by Navteq. They mentioned also a 'double check' in order to avoid not to think that a parked car is stucked in a traffic jam;
- Human: Navteq agents in the main roads monitoring traffic with their own eyes :D
Seems that is not working the way they promised... what a pity.
As might be expected, Garmin also released a new firmware version for the GTM 60 that blocks traffic with JetMouse signatures. The images below show the version 2.10 that blocks these signatures. So is need a downgrade to version 2.00.
If anyone has this version and can do an upload (use attachament), would be great.
The file 006B139900.gcd is in the folder RemoteSw (.System)...
To recognize the version of firmware installed on your cable, check out our hidden page "Diagnostics Page"/Developer Info/Traffic Receiver Status and check SYS Ver (200 or 210). To enter in Diagnostic Page press and hold the upper right corner of the page of Volume or the center of speedometer in the "computer travel" page.

Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
G, If you add a JM sub for somewhere other than EU on your GTM60 could you not see if it's just not recognised to test it? [or you could add Suna for AU and mail it over to me]![]()
