Reply With QuoteIt's quite a while since i had my paws on an SP c510 but i've no memory of being able to enable a track log, either on the map or hidden. Nothing in the manual, but you could try looking in the maintenance pages [Press Speed on the 'View Map' page to open the Trip Information page, then press and hold the Speedometer] to maybe enable a hidden trip log.

Add tracklog to C510?
Hi, I'm new here so please excuse me if I commit any forum-sins (I'll try to stick to the rules....)
I travel quite a lot in Africa - I'm just going back for another 6 month stint there.
I've previously always used my Zumo 550 as my GPS of choice (just happened to be what I had) with T4A mapping.
Just recently I've realised that the Zumo might be worth a bit more than what I'm happy to leave lying around in the truck cab, so I've been looking around for something "cheaper" that I wouldn't be sad to lose.
In my box of tricks I've got quite a few older C510s, the only thing that these don't do for me is tracklogs (I find them useful to backtrack when off road etc and to see where I've actually been later).
Is there any way to add this feature to a C510 by any (slim) chance?

There's nothing in the maintenance pages that I can see - I was sort of hoping that it might be possible to use something like the Zumo FW on the C510 (or maybe something from a slightly later version of the StreetPilot series).
I've just got my hands on a 2445 Nuvi which will do the job as well, so I'll be taking that with me this time (although it doesn't feel quit as robust) - it'd be nice to put some of these old units to use though (I've got at least 4 of them, 2 being "new").

Yes, i've just had a look in an old nuvi 300 which has similar menu and maintenance pages to the earlier SP and nothing there either. As to modding the SPc510 firmware to enable a trip/track log, even if possible it would involve far too much work by a navigation software expert to make it viable in my [non-expert] opinion.
Your zumo would be better suited to a bit of 'rough & tumble' in the wilds of Africa than a girly nuvi 2445 imo also.'Thanking Posts' are banned. That's what I thought about the 2445/Zumo - but theft is such a big issue out there - the (new) 2445 only cost me �40 so if it only lasts one season it's worth it! I've just found a second hand 255 to use as backup in case the 2445 doesn't survive!
Shame about the c510s though - they seem better built than the more modern units. It was a long shot.

To see where he's been and to use his current off-road track for backtracking is what he wants to do, not pre-plan a track:
