SUM-file is used by Garmin GPS navigation devices; contains a checksum for a corresponding file on the device, such as a map (.IMG) file or a voice (.VPM) file or a Junction View (.JCV) file etc.; generated when a diagnostics test is run on the unit, either by the user (from the diagnostics menu) or from the Garmin site for example, during the update process.

SUM-file can be deleted and the device will still run properly ...
