I guess that was just a typo and you meant "using Utilities", 'coz that's where the 'Get UnitID' function is in my MS, not under the Tools tab. It's interesting and would be known to regular users of MS.
As well as reading the Software Unit ID/Unlock ESN/CID on a media card connected with GarminXT on it, that will also give the Software Unit ID if you have MobilePC on the PC or laptop:

However the GMPC SUID is available on the computer directly from the program anyway:

Perhaps of some small interest is if you put any Garmin unit's GarminDevice.xml file in a Garmin folder on an actual or virtual sd card you can get the UID that way too (that trick is of much more interest as a good way to get fw upgrades and other files as a dl from Garmin):
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
'Coz again you can easily get the UID if you just open the xml file with a browser or wordpad/notepad anyway when you have a backup of your unit on the computer.

If you need to find you ID # of your micro sd you can us you smart phone with the program called "SD tools". I used the droid x
    It works!
The program shows it in HEX code!
    Ex. Serial = 0X7cdd7092
    the Decimal # = 2092658832
I have tested it out with my Garmin nuvi and all works!
    I hope this helps!

Hello. I've read this and many other posts and still can't find something that would help me get an updated map to work on my GPS. The GPS I have came with the car I bought, factory installed, in dash (it is a Honda Navigation unit, which has DVD, radio, GPS, USB).
The Navigation system is a Garmin, but it stores all of its map information, voices, vehicles, etc on an SD Card. (The SD Card contains the gmapbmap.img, gmapprom.img, Gmapprom.unl & gmaptz.img files in the Garmin folder, it also contzaind more files in that folder as well as several other folders like Fonts, Help, Voices, Vehicle, POI, etc).
Since I was trying to get an updated map but didn't want to mess up the SD card, I made a RAW copy of it into another SD Card, but when I put that copy into the unit, I get a cannot read map data, check SD card message. So I guess the map is locked to the SD Card.
I deleted the gmapprom.img & Gmapprom.unl files from the SD Copy and copied an UNLOCKED gmapprom.img file instead. When I put it into the unit I get a screen titled SD Authentication with an input box that reads "Please input the password." and I get a keyboard with the a-z & 0-9 keys. I'm able to enter up to 16 characters (The keyboard doesn't allow symbols nor spaces).
How can I get that SD card password? I tried running the Hardware_IDExtractor tool on the copy SD, but it won't show anything under "Real Hard drive ID (hardware)". Although I don't think that would help much, as that would be the ID, not the password :/
    The facts are:
    - All the garmin information from the unit is stored in the factory SD Card
    - A RAW copy of it doesn't work, without modifyng its contents, I get a cannot read map data message
    - If I add an unlocked map to the RAW copy, naming it gmapsupp.img, I get a cannot read map data message
    - If I delete the gmapprom img & unl files from the raw copy and copy an unlocked map with filename gmapprom.img, I'm asked for the SD password.
I would really appreciate any help; I've been reading full posts for the last couple of weeks and can't find a way to make the unit to accept a new SD Card & unlocked map.

Default These are the files in the factory SD Card

The attachment has the list of all the files in the SD Card. The RAW copy lists the same.

    @diegoand
I know naught about Honda car satnavs, but it seems you may have several problems:

    1. Garmin units read FAT or FAT32. Maybe RAW is not recognised at all. Try again with the second sd formatted correctly, if that doesn't work move on:

    2. The detail map (gmapprom.img) is locked to the SD card, that is the files Gmapprom.unl & grmn0.gma are specific to the detail map and the SD CID: That is overcome by unlockers such as gimgunlock which unlock the map and remove its GMA protection and then your map should then be able to be used on any other Garmin unit or any other SD card. Conversely, another unlocked detail map may be used on your SD. That much is fact, the rest is not necessarily.

    3. Your satnav is requiring a password to prevent another SD card being used other than the OEM card. I should think the unit sw checks the CID to confirm that it is one that has previously had a specific password entered. Mind you, this is my conjecture, but seems likely.

If you are prepared to take the risk, you could back up the 3 files gmapprom.img and its associated unl & gma, then remove them from your original card and copy a new unlocked map as gmapprom.img. The unit should still recognise the sd card id and the unlocked map will work on both the sd card and therefore the unit. Again, my conjecture, but if that doesn't work you should be able to copy the original map image with its unl and gma files back successfully.

Otherwise, search around and post over in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for help. Good luck.

PS: I see you've also posted here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], probably a better spot than car nav systems anyway seeing you're getting lots of expert attention there.

Great post I am trying to get back up to speed with unlocking garmin g2 marine map cards, my old account was hacked and I could not get in. I am in need of a refresher course. I cannot seem to find the right software to unlock this card. I have tried some of the unlockers with no luck. My old account stimpy2300 had got hacked and I could not get in so I had to start a new one.
I have tried this one Garmin Image Unlock gimgunlock up to v.0.03 but it did not work. It's been a year since I have done this so I am way out of it. Once I get it unlocked I will post it here its a new south florida marine g2 map.. I will post back as I try.

You must just drag&drop the bluechart gmapsupp.img in gimgunlock icon, that's all-
To see if a card is locked drag it in Gmaptool and look at log.
I restored your account stimpy2300, the 2 accounts will be merged.

    diegoand,

Have you been able to load maps updates to your Honda OEM/Factory Nav system ? I have a Civic with Factory Nav and I have found two problems.

1.) DVD's are "Stamped" discs and not burned in the regular way.
2.) Cannot locate maps updates anywhere online.

So I've been stuck paying the $100-150 to buy a map update DVD.

    Thanks

    @timp4411
You've got a different satnav to him. His is an SD card unit with not just map data but also other files on the card, and seems more like an older garmin unit or gmpc. Yours sounds like a denso-type satnav (map data dvd type unit), which is not a garmin system.
