Garmin MapSource-Map of Iceland Jan 11th 2012 - update
MapSource®-Map for Iceland.
To work with Garmin's MapSource®-Software and for upload to all mapable gps devices of Garmin.
The map can also be used - with some additional (self-)work - for GPS-devices of ALAN and with some additional (self-)work for Magellan Triton. You can find more information on Alex's website .
If you have a PDA (PocketPC) just have a look to i.e. Glopus.de, which can import bitmap-maps and the img-format.
There is no way (as far as I know) to import the map into TomTom-devices.
positive feedback from users handling with these devices:
- GPSMap 62, 62s, 62 st und GPSMap 78, 78s
- Oregon 300, 400, 500
- Colorado 300
- GPSMap 60C(S)(x) und GPSmap 76C(S)(x)
- eTrex-Serie
- Streetpilot 2610 GPS
- GPSMap 176
- iQue m5 und iQue 3600
- Quest
- Nüvi 250, 255, 300 und 350 (delux)
- Nüvi 660
- Zumo
- GPS 276C
- GPS C320
- Garmin G60
- Garmin Edge 705
At the moment the map contents the following objects:
Coastline and most of the islands
most of the common roads (~95% gps verified)
Maps of Reykjavik, Akureyri, Hafnarfjördur, Isafjördur and others
highland (4x4-)tracks (~95% gps-verified)
walking-tracks: Laugarvegurinn, Hornstrandir, Lönsoræfi, Seyðisfjörður, Kjalvegur and others
most common ferries to Vestmannaeyjar, Flatey, Grimsey, Seyðisfjörður, Viðey
glaciers and marked mountains
larger lakes and rivers
many mountain-huts (description of the huts on Dieter Graser's (german) homepage Isafold.de)
many interesting one-day-hiking trails
some campsites (but not complete)
many POIs (Points-of-Interest), most of them can be searched in the GPS
many fords (but not complete)
20-meter-contourlines
But: the map is not routeable, neither in MapSource nor in the device !
download the complete-installation and run it.
That's it! Start MapSource® and choose the map "Island-Topo" (and zoom in, because Iceland is not so big ;-)).
for uploading the map into the gps-device select all maps with pressed left mouse button from the very north west to the very south east.
for any updates of the map just download the complete-installation and deinstall the older and install the newer version.
