Some, like myself, prefer MapSource some million times before using BaseCamp. No need to invoke MapInstall for map build transfers.
It's also possible to use a IMG map in MapSource. No simple procedure but the best is to install Trip & Waypoint Manager v5 and replace the "TRIPWPT5.img" with the one you're interested in. Some complex maps and BlueChart g2 Vision can give strange results in map rendering when replacing the TRIPWPT5.img file with such content instead.

Ditto for me too, but never had the guts to say so before seeing Ballebar's post above. I disliked Basecamp on first sight but actually thought maybe i was being a "stick-in-the-mud" and too old or too lazy to be bothered properly relearning. So have just re-visited it spurred on by BB's tip for using IMG maps in MS using Trip & Waypoint Manager, and now don't see much reason (for me) to use Basecamp over Mapsource at all now that i've got my head around using TRIPWPT5.img that way.
PS: Maybe that info for using images in MS should go into Garmin Tutorials? Might help some other MS tragics, i bet.
