Hi blabser,
I suspect you're running in trial mode. You could wait until 22nd, get bombed and start again but I would suggest do the following now before you imput POI's etc:
* Uninstall GMPC
* Delete the GarminMobilePC folder from Documents & Settings\Application Data\Garmin\ or it will remember the previous trial installation
* Restart computer
* Reinstall & run GMPC, by EXACTLY following Catymag's detailed instructions in post #2 of the following: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Re setting your start position without live GPS: Go to Settings; System; Remote GPS; GPS Info; New Location. Then browse the map to select your desired start point and hit OK. The selected location is now your new start point. By the way if you want to buy a cheap GPS receiver, Nokia LD-3W bluetooth modules work well with GMPC in WinXP > and presently cost less than US$30 posted from HK on eBay. Hope this is of some help.

Reason: Corrected for clarity & grammer.
Copy the cards in the program folder, the names they will have as a mobile version:
gmapbmap.img - basemap
gmapsupp.img - your map
gmapsup2.img - another card
gmapprom.img - another card
Create files for them to unlock (for base maps unlocking is not necessary!), respectively:
gmapsupp.unl - unlock file for your card
gmapsup2.unl - unlock a file for another card
gmapprom.unl - unlock a file for another card
----------------------
sw.unl - file unlock the program. He needed to see third-party software and integrated GPS-module, different from the module manufacturer Garmin!
----------------------
In this archive invested all four ready to unlock the files!
You only need to generate the necessary codes by using keygens (IMEI-converter is needed for smartphones for ID) and paste the code into a file in any text editor.
----------------------
Files unlock go into the folder Garmin - mobile version (XT).
Unlocking files go in folder GarminMobilePC program - is for the laptop (PC).

Hello all,
thank you very much for all the info here.
Catymag,
Do I understand this correct: could I have up to four different mapsets in the Garmin folder?:
gmapbmap.img - basemap
gmapsupp.img - your map
gmapsup2.img - another card
gmapprom.img - another card
As long as I name them this way?
The latter two "imposing" as a card, or should they really be cards? (sorry for the Noob question, I always have to have it spelled out)
I want to use mobilerPC basically to see what map images I have. For navigation in my car I use mainly NRoute as it can be used in the same way as Mapsource. In that respect, is there anyway I can use MobilePC to see/handle tracks?
@Dustbite
You can have 4 map images in your GarminMobilePC folder and you name them depending on which Version you have:
in v5.00.60 and earlier:
gmapbmap.img (Base Map)
gmapprom.img (detail map)
gmapsupp.img (detail map)
gmapsup2.img (detail map)
In v5.00.70:
gmapbmap.img (Base Map)
gmapprom.img (detail map)
gmapprom1.img (detail map)
gmapsupp.img (detail map)
v5.00.60 & earlier won't recognize gmapprom1 and v5.00.70 won't recognize gmapsup2, but either way you can have 3 detail maps plus the base map. Forget the "card" stuff, I think that's just a translation glitch, they're all just map images.
If you want even more maps, you can of course combine them with Mapsource up to the 2Gb image size limit and then have up to 6Gb of detail maps, or just keep in your gmpc folder additional maps coveniently named (nth_amer.img for example) and rename to a legitimate .img when needed.
EDIT: See Post #46 by syzygy for info on adding an extra map to version5.00.70 (gmapsup2.img) using hex edit. Be sure you're competent with a hex editor and heed syzygy's backup & user's own risk warnings. Thanks syzygy

Commando, if you want to install garmin mobile pc and you get "error says unable to find old installation" you need to execute the mobile pc fix before installation.
running fix will pretend that an older version of garmin mobile pc is already on your system and you will alow you to install the software.

To add gmapsup2.img as the 5th map recognized in v5.00.70g, do as below.
1. Back up your original Que.exe first so you can revert back in case anything goes wrong.
2. Open Que.exe with a hex editor such as UltraEdit or WinHex.
3. Go to file offset 000E9400 in hex.
4. Change the byte value there from 18 to 15 in hex.
5. Save and exit.

Great find! I've posted a link back to your post from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] where Caty copied my Post #43 into Tutorials. I've credited you of course. Rep added. Cheers.
trying to download garmin software for Windows for car navigator. can someone help me please
Megaupload is closed and the link in post #1 doesn't work.
Try Garmin direct download if you want this software. You may also need a registry fix from post #45 to overcome that you install an upgrade that normally requires a previous installation.
Windows for car navigator? Is it Windows Embedded 7? This software is Garmin MobilePC for Windows on a PC platform. Maybe your car navigator runs on Windows CE or Windows Mobile and then you should use Garmin MobileXT instead.
