Thread: Just bought a Garmin nuvi 3790T and have alot of questions

Maybe you misunderstood., because the gcd file that you uploaded is Sg/My (Not Taiwan firmware)

I saw this GCD file in the .System directory.

And I haven't convert to SG/MY firmware yet, so I dun think I got the wrong file.

Hwid within garmindevice.xml was "read" from string (Unicode) in fw_all.bin located at hex: 7F5BD6 (Let say about Sg/My 2.30 fw_all.bin).
This hwid within garmindevice.xml can be wrong if the device used to flash with mod .rgn made from RGN_Tool v0.44 0r 0.50.
You can see what I said just you use 0.44 to convert nuvi. This issue is fixed in v0.60 already.

If you are sure about .gcd file you uploaded., you have to ensure about what really hwid your nuvi is.
To flash nuvi with wrong hwid boot.bin will brick your unit.

True, but he stated that he never flashed the firmware, thats why I guess the HWID is still original.
I suspect in the moment, that Garmin Taiwan uses 1 firmware for SG/MAL and TW, I maybe have to go to Garmin Taiwan and check their sample

The first 3790 Taiwan f/w already has mp3 player feature but Sg/My v2.20 did not. (mp3 player is in Sg/My 2.30).
So I wonder why he got Sg/My f/w in his Taiwan nuvi.

One explanation could be, that the TW 3790 was a few months later released then the SG/MAL device, so TW 3790 came already with FW 2.30 and was then available also for SG/MAL device

When I first bought my Taiwan nuvi 3790T, it was already on firmware 2.50. Hope that information helps. :S
