I wanted to replace the internal map on my nuvi 1340 from the 2010 ver to the 2011. I had the 2011 map as gmapsupp, but could not find how to show the contents of the system folder of the nuvi, although it must be in the forum somewhere. I eventually discovered the method and note it here in case anybody else has same problem.
Operating system XP
To display contents of Garmin device, Start-> Control Panel
double click Folder Options -> View tab
check box Display contents of system folders
click Show hidden files and folders
uncheck-Hide protected operating system files
click Apply, and the system folder will appear.
backup gmapprom.img and gmapprom.sum from this folder to the pc, and then delete them from the nuvi system folder
copy gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.sum, in my case from the sd to the nuvi system folder, rename them gmapprom.img and gmapprom.sum and I now have the 2011 maps on the device taking the place of the redundant 2010 maps.
It worked for me, but usual care should be taken in backing up first etc.
When you have finished set the pc folder options back to their previous settings.
