    If you are using Windows,
you need to enable it to see the system files as well as the hidden files. It will warn you that it is dangerous to do this. Just go ahead and check that reveal system file box and hit apply at the bottom of screen. Otherwise, you won't be able to see the /.System folder.
Yes, the maps you are looking for reside in there.

To see the .System file on your nuvi do the following:

    - click on the Start Menu icon in Windows (lower left corner) or the Search box/icon
    - in the Search field at the bottom of the Start Menu type - Folder Options
    - from the search results that appear, select - folder options (or file explorer options for later OSs)
    - on the Folders Options screen, click on the View tab
    - under Advanced Settings select "show hidden files, folders and drives" under the Hidden Files and Folders section
    - under Advanced Settings delete the tick mark beside "Hide Protecting Operating System Files(Recommended)" and answer Yes you want to do that when the warning box appears.
    - click Apply and then OK to save your changes and close the View Options box

Now attach your Nuvi to the PC and find the Nuvi's internal storage drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer. Open that drive to see the contents and you should find the .System file at or near the top of the listing.

    And in MAC
Here's how to reveal the hidden .system folder. Once it is visible, just drag all the files to another folder on your Mac.
