Garmin unit not recognized by pc ?
Firstly,be sure your usb cable works fine: many problems come from a bad usb cable.
Go to the Device Manager. START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL. Then double-click on SYSTEM, then HARDWARE, then DEVICE MANAGER, it allows you to view and control the hardware attached to your computer.
Shut down your Nuvi but keep the usb cable plugged into your pc.
Hold on your Nuvi power button untill the preboot message shows up. When you'll see the message, keep on holding the power button and connect the GPS to the USB cable
Keep on holding the power button through this process.
While your device is in a "Pre-Boot" mode ,your pc device manager should either show a listing for "Garmin Device" or a new found hardware wizard will appear to install "Garmin Device".
When the Found New Hardware Wizard appears and you'r prompted how to install the necessary USB drivers ,leave the power button and put the cd that came with the Nuvi into your computer.Choose your CD-Rom drive Letter
When the USB driver installation is complete choose "Finish" and your Nuvi should now be seen by the computer as a separate drive.

If the Device list shows the Garmin in USB devices as properly installed and "working properly", but you can't find the hardware anywhere to access its folders try mapping the drive:
Click Start.
Go to Settings and click on Control Panel .
Click Administrative Tools, then click on Computer Management.
Click Storage and then Disk Management
In the Computer Management window, double-click Storage, then Disk Management.
Click on the Garmin disk drive
Right-click and select Change Drive Letter and Path.
Click Edit, select a drive letter from the list
Click OK
------------
On the handhelds like the 60CSx you have to go to the Interface menu and set it as USB device before it's recognized.
