Rename your original file gmapprom.img to gmapprom.img.old so your device will not "see" it anymore an it will read map from SD card.
Later if you want to restore original file you could just remove .old extension

Hi all. I downloaded the mapsource version of North America 2011.10 unto mapsource, unlocked it and it's working fine. But when I sent it to my garmin device (zumo 500) I get the message "can't unlock map". I don't understand cause the map is unlocked on mapsource. Appreciate your help on what to do. Thanx

have u unlocked it with zumo id?

use this to unlock an img

Thank you so much Catymag. It's now working like a charm when i used the fast img unlocker. By the way, to answer your question, I unlocked it on mapsource using the 16 digit code provided with the attachement I downloaded; there was no need to enter the zumo id.

If you are using attached code map is unlocked only in MapSource, but if you generate another unlock code with JetMouse using ID from Your GPS, it will be unlocked when you transfer it to device.

I am sure this is covered on this forum somewhere, but somehow search didnt help me much. I will keep trying to search but would appreciate any direct assistance.
I just bought nuvi 265wt which seems to have 2010 maps on it. I dont have any other Garmin software installed. If I have to update maps with the latest update what are the steps I need to take?

Search function helped. I was able to get this to work easily by renaming the img file.

copy unlocked img in an sd in a garmin directory, rename it gmapsupp.img
Before updating to the new maps, you should first update your receiver software
