    MAC OS X - INSTALLING MAPS

    If you have a map in gmap format (can be frequently found in this forum), it can easily be installed into your MAC OS X software - just click the .gmap icon, it will install into RoadTrip, where you can browse it or transfer it to your Garmin device throught MapInstall.

    Prerequisite is the Garmin software for mac, which can be freely downloaded grom Garmin site.

    Maps are installed by copying the GMAP folder into location: user/Library/Aplication Support/Garmin/Maps

    If you wish to have maps on some other drive, you can make a symbolic link: open terminal and type: ln -s [target gmap file] [map folder location] . This can be easiliy done just by dragging targeted files and folder into terminal window.

    Default Mac os x - removing maps

    MAC OS X - REMOVING MAPS

    To remove a mapset from your MAC computer, you just need to delete it - as simple as that!

    Go to: homefolder/library/application support/garmin/maps and delete the folder containing the .gmap file you wish to remove. Restart RoadTrip and that is it!

    Enjoy the simplicity of MAC!

    Default Mac os x - unlock codes

    MAC OS X - HOW TO ENTER UNLOCK CODES INTO ROADTRIP

    If you have a preinstalled map on your Mac computer, the procedure of entereing unlock codes is simple Just go to Unlock -> Edit Unlock codes (or hit ⇧⌘U) and click Add button - here you just enter or paste the code you have for a specific mapset.

    The procedure is similar to that seen in Mapsource for Windows. So far, there is no need for "patched" Roadtrip.

    Default MAC OS X - RoadTrip

    Some advice and useful info about using RoadTrip - Garmin software for Mac os X

    RoadTrip is a program quite similar to Mapsource for Windows. It allows you to browse maps and its POIs, enables you to enter and edit unlock codes, can handle multiple mapsets you have previously installed etc.

    When browsing maps, it is not a bad idea to use limited detail preview (a slider in right-bottom corner). High detail preview may slow down th computer.

    If you wish to transfer maps into device, use MapInstall program. It uses pretty much the same logic when selecting various regions of maps and allows you to choose which ones you wish to transfer to device or to USB stick. It uses the same rules as Mapsource: creates a gmapsupp.img in Garmin directory.

    Besides that, RoadTrip allows you to import recorded tracks from your device and analyze them in your maps.

    Have fun!

    Hi,

    I want to add to that, that first of all, BaseCamp is pretty good too.
    Next thing is, you can easily share maps between windows (if you still have some) and mac.
    I have a MapSource VMware session still inside Windows, just to get non-gmap maps converted.

    But on windows, we can also use GMap folder.
    It is quite easy actually:
    Place the .gmap file anywhere on a large disk.
    Richt click on the .gmap file inside the new location, and select: Create Shortcut.
    Move that shortcut to the following folder, depending on your windows version:
    Windows XP -> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps
    Windows Vista -> C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\maps
    Windows 7 -> C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\maps

    For mac, the install is the same (although the GMap folder looks like a file on MAC (but it isn't !! )
    So, on the MAC:
    Copy the .gmap file to the $HOME/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps directory.
    To make the map available for all users, please create the following directory if not already there:
    /Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps, and please the .gmap file in that directory instead.

    If you want to place the files elsewhere, please put all your .gmap files in that new directory, and create [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
    i.e., if your new path is /Users/Shared/Garmin/Maps/, please execute the following command:
    Code:
    Please Login or Register to see the links
    Naturally, if the original target directory for the link is already present, please make it empty and remove it first otherwise you can not create the symbolic link.

    If required, please use the MapID to unlock your map in JetMouse (which is not there for MAC yet, who owns the source for this tool? I can write it down into a native mac app if I would know what it exactly calculates.),
    and enter the new key into the Garmin MapInstall.app program,
    via the Unlock -> Edit Unlock Codes, menu option.

    Seems to be working, but it is a huge file: 219 MB for a tiny jetmouse generator?? Thanks for effort who did this transition, but making a native mac aplication based on sourcecode would we more than welcome.

    I can easily build it, but the problem is that I do not know the interior of the generator.
    There must be some kind of calculation in the key for the MapID + unit ID. I have not yet found it though.
    If I have more luck, there will definitely be a post here.

    Kind regards, Math
