WIN CE [Windows CE 5&6] Garmin MXT 5.00.30 ASN - better version

    Hiya,

After half a year, I got this package from an infamous Chinese forum. Check this:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Thanks Caty for the mirrors.

    How to:
    Step 1. DIY
1.1 Donwload the exe file from the first link. Try Winhex or Ultraedit to open it.
    1.2. Goto address (Ctrl-G in UE) 0x460690
1.3. Change all readable vars to your SD.
    eg "/garmin/" ->"/Storage Card/Garmin/" -- in CE5
    "/garmin/" -> "/SDMMC/Garmin/" -- in CE6
    all in all, "/garmin/" --"/your sd folder/garmin/"
Make sure all the strings don't cover each other, and have a trailing "00 00" in hex.

1.4 those strings stand for settings "where to find the map img", "where to put / read customized settings ", "where to put favorite POI", "full path and file name for favorite poi".

I wish you could understand what 0x460690-0x460760 stands for, it is the address range for path setting in the file. That is to say, you just need to modify few strings in the file.

1.5 It is NOT tested running GMXT in residentflash/my flash disk/ and so on. Even if you make related changes in the executable file, I am afraid you could never succeed. As long as internal flash has /garmin/ folder, the program will promote "... insert original SD card ... ". And till now, I haven't find a copy or version could be launched in internal flash.

1.6 If you are CE 6 users, change address 0x12e from "05" to "06" in hex.

    Step 2. DIY
2A If your console is CE6, download Artful's pack. Easily rename the modifyed executable file, and put it in /garmin/app/wm/ folder.

2B In CE5, download my 2nd package. That is all that is needed. Put your DIY file in /garmin/app/wm/ folder. Please empty "garmin/save" "garmin/poi, garmin/GPX" folders UNLESS you are in China and you could read chinese.

    Step 3. Edit Garmin/runGMXT/garmin.mscr

IT IS NECESSARY to read and edit Mortscript. You are hereby required to do so if you want to use it with my 2nd pack.
My garmin.mscr does following jobs (FOR CE5)
3.1 Kill explorer, set the registry to hide taskbar (in case taskhide does not work), launch explorer and hide it. This is essential because without explorer and its multi-window switch facilities, Garmin could not display GUI in CE.
3.2 Launch GPS-gate, a GPS-port mirror tool. In most CE5, Garmin could not work with most gps port. I am not professional enough to find the reason(port write-back, & GPS interfaces). But I dare to say, GPS-port is a good tool for Garmin. Garmin doesn't work with port-splitter, another virtual port mirror tool.
This is optional. But a survey suggested 90% PNA need this tool.
3.3 Kill explorer again, restore taskbar registry entries, and load a explorer process when necessary.

Apr-25: updated with a Fixed ID version, by OpenGL from sosaw.com. It is somehow a bit slower, but a solution for invalid ID consoles as well.

    Why it is better:

It is provided with correct poi/favorite management facilities and less bugs.

Artfuls version has bugs in POI/Favorite mangement and display. Sorry I am too lazy to explain. To be short : bugs in POI management--caused--> poor display performance. If you want to confirm, add some favorites, delete them, open current.gpx, and you will find rubbish info in the XML.

The fact is this version displays maps 20% faster at least, and in other UI 50% faster in my console.

This is not made by me. Regards to those unnamed heros.

Notice: This is the unique ID version

    Thanks Caty,

Another confirmed news from a bbs. CE6 SD-IO is just slower than CE5, and the avg. SD read performance rate is CE5:CE6 > 3:2. To make it worse, CE6's write performance is even worse. So it might be a discouraging news for CE6/WM6 holders. This version could help, but just a bit on performance.

Mine is not from Proton version. Actually I tried several Proton versions and instructions but all failed. It was once hacked last year for Kitty ( Out-of-stock Navman GPS) fans. I just downloaded it as anonymous browsing, but the post starter said he just re-post the link and had no clue of the author either. That is the greatest point of the internet , isn't it? Privacy and efficiency.

This Garmin only work on SDMMC right? Not on residentflash that mostly come with Chinese PNA WinCE6.0?

I will try it! Thanks for your sharing!!

This version come with proper POI functions and speedcam warning. put it in SD card, never in residentflash.
I am from China , it is working on both of my PNA.
BTW, if you enable QSI and met with major navigation window gray-out issue, just change your multi-navigation program launcher. I tried some beautiful Chinese/Korean launcher, haha, Garmin navigation guiding window grayed-out, and I had to roll back to some other popular launcher (system-info and miopocket both fine).

    betahash,

Would you please share a proper Mortscript for PNA WinCE6.0? I can't get it to work. Can't open Garmin. It's ended at port splitter, then still on GPS menu. Nothing happens.

It would be great if you can share it as a full package. Just extract it and do navigation.

Here I have attached my new WinCE6.0 PNA picture to you to figure out this model of PNA can use Garmin or not.

However this works fine on my Old WinCE5.0 PNA.

1, Sadly you cannot make garmin work with port splitter as far as I know. If your native GPS is not recognized by Garmin, try Gps-gate that was included in the support file link, and read my mortscript .mscr file as well.

I tried Port-splitter, which requires GUI operations. At the first time, you need to launch port-splitter from windows CE explorer, perform correct settings and start-stop-quit. Later the setting data file will be used. None of my friends succeeded in this way with CE6.

With Port-splitter, the .mscr emulates on-screen mouse right/left clicks. Actually it requires a lot skills, hard to set. 800x600, 480x272 screen-res and the number of programs shown in system-tray both affects its setting.

GPS-gate that reads configurations from registry is anyhow easier and faster.

2, Download Mortscript here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] , and use files of \bin\PNA\*.*
After all, you might have several Mortscript engine/launcher in your PNA. Find them all, and replace all the executable -- including those .exe in pair of your .mscr file -- and dll with the latest pack.
