Garmin Contours Australia version 3 (5m Contour Maps)
Garmin Contours Australia version 3 (5m Contour Maps)
This is the latest version of Contours Australia
The maps cover all of Australia at 5m contour intervals now. Added a bit more detail to the preview maps in Mapsource, like coast lines, state borders and town/city locations. As the maps are just contour lines they are to be used with other products like City Navigator, Metroguide, Shonky Maps, Open Street Map or any other Australian Garmin formatted maps to turn them into topo like maps on the GPS. The mapset is just over 2GB in size and there is 668 maps in the set. Partial areas can be loaded. Contours are shown at 5 meter intervals at 120m or below on the GPS. 200m to 300m are at 10m intervals. 500m to 1.2km are at 50m intervals and 2km zoom contours are at 100m intervals when the GPS detail level is set normal. Set your GPS detail to Most and you will see the 5m contours out to the 1.2km zoom. In Mapsource you will see the Australian coast line, state borders and town/city points. These are only shown in Mapsource and not transfered to the GPS.
To install the Windows version of Contours Australia is quite easy. After you download "contour_australia_5m_win32.zip" unzip all the contains (contours_australia_5m.exe and ca5m.7z) to a temp directory or place on your PC. Next just run "contours_australia_5m.exe" to install on your PC. You DO NOT HAVE to unzip "ca5m.7z" at all. The Linux version is installed by unzipping the contains to a location of your choice. I don't have a Mac so I can't help you to install the Mac version.
Usually when two maps that cover the same area are enabled one will overlay the other and only the top one will be seen--this map is transparent--it sits on top only its lines are seen and the map on the bottom(autoroute) is fully visible-and fully functional---both maps are seen at the same time--
if this map and australia 2010.10 are both enabled at the same time--you will have what i think is the best topo-navigator there is..autoroute with 5m (16 feet ) depth lines--

Hi Everyone new to this so be kind will this have national parks, forrests and the like on this map and does any one know how recent these maps are thanks in advance
it's a contour map only
A contour map is a map illustrated with contour lines, a topographic map, which thus shows valleys and hills, and the steepness of slopes. The contour interval of a contour map is the difference in elevation between successive contour lines.
These are 2009 maps
I had both 10m and 5m transparent contour maps from Contours Australia. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . These maps had the same PID and a FID of 0. For these I had to use GMapTool to split one of the img into maps (not "files for Mapsource", but "single maps") and then join all these maps giving a mapset name and new FID/PID numbers in gmaptool join options.

Hi Chris , these maps links are missing here in Noeman's thread [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Could you upload them please?

Links *should* all be interchangeable.
Some U/L sites (Freakshare & Ziddu) changed the names of the files. I noticed that some seem to change the size as well.
