Default Remove the forced LIKE to see a post

I think forcing any user who is a member of this forum to hit the LIKE button before just to be able to see if the info or download fits this persons needs is unfair.
Let the USER make that decision after he or she has the time to look over the post and tested the download.

This option should be remover and it will make it easier for the members of this forum to decide if the info was helpful or not, Then if the USER see fit to hit the LIKE Button or not and not before the fact.

This is the only forum I have been on that makes you hit the LIKE Button first to see posts from some other members of this forum seeing you have to be a member first to see any thing that has an attachment to the post.

This gives the poster a very large amount of forced LIKES that might not be given other wise.

This is what should be remove and not used any more.......

This post requires you to click the "LIKE this post" button and hit F5 to read this content.

    I partially agree with you.

Certain content should not be visible to everyone (especially those who just browse the Forum and are not even members).

On the other hand, there are many who just download content and leave no feedback, let alone like or rep. This is extremely pronounced in the car section. Or software.

I agree with you but a Forced LIKE does not midagate any feedback in most cases none at all.
There are lots of times I would just like to read a post that was posted.
Not give a LIKE for somthing I have not even read yet or might not need to comment on or give a LIKE.
How does one know if he or she will LIKE a post before even looking at it first?
Is it something I need or not?

The Forced LIKE only inflates the USER's ego look at all these LIKES I got.
Is it not better for a member of this forum to give an honest LIKE as apposed to a forced LIKE for only reading a post and maybe download the attachment?

One thing I know is you can not force a user to give a LIKE or post a comment if that person or persons are not inclined to do so.

And to Prove a point I tracked one user from Jan 31st. to Feb 28th.
This person has a total of 4150 likes in 29 days.
I find it hard to believe that all is on the up and up with this kind of total for Likes.

The only thing I can see that would happen is 99% Hit and Run.
But on the other hand the Poster can see how many downloaded it, whether they use the file or not but the ones that come back and ask question probably be the ones to give a like.
I will look into and see if I can switch off that option or whether that can only be done by Chaotix.
Not saying I will do it but that is an area of the system I have not yet explored.

    Hmmm, Mag...
Caty introduced this Like system for the reasons stated.

True, some people abuse this (they are obsessed with likes), but authors should still be left with the right to choose.

I also monitor the general situation and notice that only regular reputable members provide adequate feedback.
There are also those who like every possible post
But most new users, and those who rarely show up, just download what they need and that's it.

It cannot and will never please everyone

    P.S.
Many notable members, proven useful with great contribution, do not have an adequate reputation.
I know, because I personally, for example, tripled the rep of some in order to reach an adequate status.
I think that reputation is more important than LIKE counter. Or user status.

On some other (domestic) forums, there are likes but the counter is not displayed at all. Apropos, it is not visible to ordinary users, only to staff because it can tell you some useful information.

To be honest I don't really care how many likes/rep I get because every like that I get I know it's not Forced, I added the posts that I deleted back in 2017 that I deleted then coz I can but it doesn't bring back likes/rep or any of that or even badges who cares not me.
You guys know more about the product than me "reason is I don't use them, I had a tom tom XL250 I think and by the time I fitted in my car the warranty was gone and it failed in 6mths of use" If I was going somewhere that I wasn't 100% familiar with I googled mapped it, reason I don't use GPS car navs is because I was a Field Service Tech and used the paper map books ' oh there it is and off I'd go', so city Nav became normal so you needed to know your way around, But I did come to this Forum looking for Maps and to only find I had the latest map anyway,so in the end Neil said stay and here I am.
You guys do a great job helping Members "that would of thought of in these days as being Tech Savvy but it seems not.
I showed my 2 Sons everything I did in Electronics and IT when they where young and they moved through there education knowing sometimes more than the lectures But they blended and now they earn 3 times more than I did
Anyway any body that reads this I hope you learn something about life in Electronics and gadgets has been my life since 1964 and am still doing the odd IT even though am Retired.
Hang in there guys the next 20yrs will be a dozzy. "20yrs yep I will be around I hope"

    Sure my friend

I also don't care about the counter.
I only use Likes when I don't want temporary visitors to be able to access my links so easily and for the reason that some of my uploads have been removed. My instructions and advice are never hidden.

As at 24th October 2023 the Like button has been removed from all Inactive Members.
The reason is 99% of them are hit-and-run, then you get the member that downloads everything, and you can't tell me they have all these devices or cars etc they are on posting to other forums and relabelling them, and these are just the Zero posters and once they reach Member status they can go for it.
But if they're only taking a few for personal use all they need to do is come back and do a feedback post : it worked in my car type, model, software version, head unit etc. Since they have already given a like then "no, thank you" of because they can't post if the post is closed but can still give LIKE and download.
